ManiaExchange 2.0 Release Date Announcement
Dear Trackmania and Shootmania community,
We are happy to announce further information and a release date for the completely reworked ManiaExchange sites. The sites TMX (trackmania.exchange), TM2.MX (tm.mania.exchange) and SMX (sm.mania.exchange) are affected.
Development started in May 2022 in parallel with ManiaPark. Since ManiaPark released in November 2023, most resources have been put into finishing MX 2.0.
Why the update?
The codebase was created in 2010 and built upon until today. Over time the maintainability of the codebase became worse with the growing set of site features. Furthermore, the framework of the site limited our ability to use the newest technologies and to debug and react to issues with the sites.
As a logical consequence, site performance went down and we are now suffering almost daily downtimes with no way of easily finding out where these downtimes are coming from.
The new sites are built from scratch - hence the 2.0 - using existing technologies we share between the new TM1X pages. Performance, maintainability and extendability are now massively improved. In the end, the user experience is the main benefactor of this update.
When will the new pages be coming out?
We have targeted Friday, December 27th, 2024 for the release of the pages.
Please note that on this day all three sites will stay offline between 0:00 CET and 20:00 CET to perform important data migrations.
How will the APIs be affected?
There's three things that API users and developers need to know:
- The new pages have a completely reworked v2 API with new endpoints and conventions.
- All current endpoints from the Legacy API are deprecated with immediate effect. They will still work after the update, but not maintained.
- All api.mania.exchange endpoints will shut down with immediate effect on December 27th, 2024. The domain will be used for what's currently behind api2.mania.exchange.
You can find the documentation of most new v2 API endpoints here. The missing ones will be added soon. If you need to test your app against the endpoints before release contact Ozon on ManiaExchange Discord.
The sites will be offline during the data migration and all endpoints of ManiaExchange will be unavailable.
What changes with the new sites?
There's a lot of changes, which are difficult to put into a list, but we tried anyways with the most significant:
- New codebase from scratch optimized for performance
- New, simplified APIs
- New site design compatible with all devices (work in progress)
- Improved and simplified page navigation
- Improved search engine with faster response times
- New, simplified and more powerful map uploader
- New multi map uploader (for MX Supporters)
- Improved mappack manager (work in progress)
- Online records now prioritized on TMX
- Mass download of maps (for MX supporters)
And of course the most notable issues with the sites are fixed with the update as well.
Some features will not be fully ready when the sites release:
- Map Leaderboards and scoring
- Seasonal Leaderboards
- Cumulative Leaderboards
- Site statistics
- User statistics
- Some POST APIs used for mappack management, which will be replaced by the following
- OAuth endpoints
How can I support?
Running costs of hosting and maintaining ManiaExchange are covered by MX supporters. You can support us via the account page (Log-in required). In return you'll receive a few useful extra features on our sites.
While you will probably miss some features at first, we have no doubt that you will appreciate having an updated site where our volunteer developers are able to more easily fix things. We are excited to bring the updated sites to you and to continue improving ManiaExchange throughout 2025.
